Description: $0This session is intended to provide a general overview of Alternative and Augmentative Communication, terminology and best practices. We will define AAC, review the continuum of AAC systems including access and communication methods, identify persons who may be appropriate for AAC devices and discuss common myths about AAC.$0$0$0$0Upon completion, participants will be able to:$0$0$0Define the difference between unaided and aided AAC $0$0Identify at least 4 populations who would benefit from high tech AAC  $0$0List 2-3 common barriers or AAC myths that might prevent or delay obtaining high tech AAC$0$0$0$0$0$0$0This course will be offered for .1 ASHA CEUs (Introductory level, Professional area) from 12/14/16 through 12/13/17.$0$0$0$0Holly Schneider, MA CCC-SLP has prior experience as an Elementary & Intermediate English and Language Arts teacher. After graduating in 2000 with a Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology, she began a clinical career at St. David’s Rehabilitation Hospital, working with clients ranging in age from adolescent to geriatric.
