Teaching Core Words Through Language and Literacy

Join us for this introductory level workshop introducing Core First Learning: A Boardmaker Instructional Solution that incorporates language and literacy activities to help students learn the meaning, use, and location of core words on their AAC system. We will provide the rationale and research that informs this program and explore instructional interactive and print activities, teacher resources, and suggestions for parents.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe the use of language and literacy activities to effectively teach core words.
- List 3 evidence-based strategies that support core word instruction.
- Discuss the benefits of a fully accessible curriculum.
This course will be offered for 0.1 ASHA CEU from November 9, 2016 - November 8, 2017.
Presenter’s Bio: Jill received her Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Penn State University. She worked in the public schools as a Speech-Language Pathologist for 9 years, and then as an Educational Consultant for the Pennsylvania Department of Education for 4 years. She is currently a curriculum and content writer for Tobii Dynavox.
