Scanning Considerations for a High Tech Device

Training Type: DynaVox T10/Compass

Description: Although scanning may never be as quick as direct selection, many high-tech devices feature a myriad of setting features to increase the efficiency of communication for individuals using it as their primary selection method. For example, adjusting the scan pattern or the configuration in which the items in the selection set are presented; or the speed and timing of scanning that can be personalized according to each individual’s physical, visual and cognitive capabilities.$0$0$0$0$0In this session, we will review both familiar and new scan setting features in Compass for the TSeries devices. We will discuss ways to introduce scanning when training an individual and consider a variety of pre-programmed pagesets that are organized specifically for scanning and/or have preset features to support more efficient message retrieval. Learning Objectives:1. List at least five device features that can be customized according to an individual’s physical, visual and/or cognitive capabilities. 2. Contrast at least three differences in the organization of a communication pageset designed specifically for scanners versus one designed for a direct selector. 3. Summarize 1-2 techniques and/or scan setting setup used to introduce or train an individual using scanning on a high-tech device.$0$0$0Because of the unique characteristics of our product(s), this presentation will focus exclusively on Tobii DynaVox Compass and will not include information on other similar communication or educational product(s).$0Financial Disclosure: Holly is a full time employee at TobiiDynaVox$0Non-financial Disclosure: Holly has no relevant non-financial relationships to disclose.$0$0$0$0$0This course is offered for .1 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
