Literacy 1-2-3 and the V (Series 5)
Training Type:
Series 5
Description:
“The failure to develop literacy skills is a tragedy for any student; however, it may be even more disastrous for students who use AAC, who without the ability to read and write are severely restricted in terms of their access to self-expression, independence, and a variety of AAC systems” (Erickson and Clendon, 2005).
Individuals using AAC should be involved in the same high quality literacy experiences that occur in the regular education classrooms. Let’s explore ways to overcome barriers and integrate our AAC users into literacy activities. Let’s also look at ways to increase their interactions within these activities. In this session, we will discuss the importance of helping our AAC users attain conventional literacy skills and explore literacy activities addressing word study, reading and writing utilizing the V or VMax devices.
Note: While this session talks about Literacy on the V, it is appropriate for all Series 5 devices (V/Vmax, V+/Vmax+, Maestro).
