Answer:

The DynaVox Series 5 software enables you import pages and custom symbols created on your DynaVox 3100 device. This feature is helpful if you would like to continue to use pages that you created in a 3100 device.

Before you begin this process, you must complete the following tasks:

Once those tasks are complete, you can follow these steps to import the 3100 user backup file (.bck) into your Series 5 software:

  1. If you are importing to a device and the file is stored on a file sharing device, connect it to your device (the dual USB host port is on the left side, the card slot is on the right side). If you are using an external CDR/W drive, make sure that the CD that contains the file is loaded in the CDR/W drive. You may also have to plug the CDR/W drive into a wall outlet for power. If you are importing onto your Windows computer, you should launch the Series 5 software.
    • Note: If you are using an Open device, or the DynaVox Series 5 software on a Windows computer, a Microsoft window may appear and display the contents of the file sharing device (or ask what kind of action should be taken). Close this window by selecting the Close button [X] in the top right corner (or by selecting the Cancel button, if available).
  2. Select the blue Main Menu button in the title bar.
  3. Select Setup.
  4. Select Tools Menu.
  5. Select the Import 3100 User button on the third row of buttons.
  6. Select the 3100 Backup button. The Select 3100 Backup File menu will open.
  7. Select the location that contains the file you want to import. Use one of the following methods:
    • If the folder is on a file sharing device, proceed to step 8.
    • If the folder is on your V/Vmax device (or Windows computer) hard drive, proceed to step 9.
  8. To import from a file sharing device, complete this step:
    • Select the Show All Directories check box.
    • In the viewport, select the icon that represents the file sharing device that contains the folder that you want to import. Typically, this is drive E:, F: or G:.
    • Proceed to step 10.
  9. To import from another folder on your device (or Windows computer) hard drive, complete this step:
    • Select the Show All Directories check box.
    • Use the viewport to navigate to the folder that contains the file that you want to import. Select the expansion box [+] next to a folder to see the sub-folders that it contains. Select a folder to see its contents in the right viewport.
    • Proceed to step 10.
  10. In the right viewport, select the 3100 backup file (.bck) that you want to import.
  11. Select the OK button. You will be asked to wait while the backup file is imported into the DynaVox Series 5 software. This may take several minutes then the device will display the Tools menu again.
  12. Select the Page Browser button in the Tools menu. The pages that you imported from the 3100 backup file will be in a folder with the same name as the backup file. This folder will be visible in the left viewport, as a sub-folder to the Top level folder.
  13. You can now disconnect the file sharing device from your device.

Once the 3100 pages have been successfully imported, you can access them through the Page Navigator menu or the Page Browser menu as well as link them to other pages currently in the device. Note: Only pages and symbols can be imported successfully from the 3100 backup file to the Series 5 software. Text or song files can not be transferred.
