My Device is Getting Hot.

My device (or its charger) is very hot. It's so hot that I'm worried something may be wrong with it.

At times, parts of the unit may get warm or hot;  in some cases, hot enough to make most folks concerned... 

In most of these cases, we find that degree of occasional perceived temperature still falls within what the DynaVox engineers deem the design's normal operating range. For comparison, many standard laptop computers also get similarly hot while running.

Regardless, when concerned, one should:

  1. Please, be vigilant. Keep an eye on it, just in case it is possibly about to get "too" hot and cause an actual problem; it’s only common sense.
  2. Overheating message:  The system (if a Series5) should popup an onscreen-warning if the unit’s internal temperature sensors detect the system getting "too" hot. If the overheating or other heat sensor warning does appear on the unit itself, promptly shut off the device, remove it from the charger and from its carrying case, remove the battery, and allow the unit cool down.
  3. SMELL or SMOKE: Pay attention to see if there is any sign of smoke or of a distinct burning-smell (a smell of "burning"; not simply electrical "hotness"). Immediately follow the steps in #2 above. 
  4. Call Technical Support: Do call Technical Support at 800-344-1778 with any questions, or simply to register your concerns on the unit’s Technical Support history.

NOTE:   The above concerns also apply to the unit’s wall charger.
