Possible AAC Solutions for Stroke Survivors
For stroke survivors who are not able to use natural language, we offer a wide range of speech generating devices. A speech language pathologist (SLP) will determine if a speech device is a good solution for you and which device is the most appropriate.
DynaVox V+ or Vmax+
The complete communication solution offering unparalleled flexibility
The V+ and Vmax+ are powerful speech generating devices that support speech disorders caused by stroke, such as aphasia in which a person has difficulty or cannot use verbal speech as a means of communication. The V+ and Vmax+ offer the most access methods in the industry, including touch screen, head tracking, eye tracking, and a variety of switch-based access options. They also give you the full range of capabilities of a computer, including email, internet, environmental control and Bluetooth® capabilities. From the V+ and Vmax+, the individual with aphasia can speak, send e-mail, read books, and control a TV, DVD or VCR through one device with a seamless interface.
Aphasia Solution Developed with Dr. David Beukelman and the AAC-RERC (PDF)
The V+ and Vmax+ offer a unique solution specifically designed for those with aphasia. Developed in conjunction with Dr. David Beukelman at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the AAC-RERC, this set of software pages uses contextually meaningful pictures as part of a powerful strategy that depicts people, activities and objects in relation to one another. These images represent familiar situations, places or experiences in which all elements unite to present a framework for conversation.
DynaVox Xpress®
A world of self-xpression in your hands
Suitable for the communicator who has good dexterity, the Xpress is portable, discreet and easy-to-use. It delivers full communication capabilities and powerful, clear sound output in a convenient hand-held package. Similar in size and appearance to many mainstream technology products available today, it is appealing to the communicator and invites their communication partners to interact more naturally. With advanced touch screen technology, the display is clearer and larger than those on other PDA-based communication devices. Like the V+ and Vmax+, the DynaVox Xpress offers visual scenes and the ability to import digital photographs which help set the context for an individual with aphasia.
DynaVox EyeMax® Allows communication with eye control
For those who have experienced motor implications as a result of their stroke, the EyeMax, comprised of a Vmax+/Vmax communication device and the EyeMax accessory, allows individuals to communicate using eye movement. With the EyeMax users can access and make selections on their Vmax+/Vmax device simply by blinking or dwelling on the desired area of the screen.
