ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)
As ALS progresses and communication becomes increasingly challenging, it can dampen a person’s will to live. With the DynaVox EyeMax System, individuals will maintain the ability to communicate with those around them – at any stage of the condition’s progression.

The EyeMax System is the latest advancement in the field of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). It allows users to speak, send e-mail, surf the internet, write documents, read books and control their environment with the blink (or gaze) of an eye! With this system, users can stay connected with their family, friends and the world around them.

Who is DynaVox?

DynaVox is the world’s largest provider of AAC solutions. We have been providing devices and support to clients like Augie for over 25 years.

Can AAC Help Those with Autism, Stroke, Brain Injury or Cerebral Palsy?

In addition to ALS, DynaVox devices can be used with conditions such as autism, stroke, cerebral palsy, brain and spinal cord injuries, Down syndrome, and many degenerative conditions. See our Success Stories to watch a video or read about users who have had success with AAC devices.

DynaVox offers a range of products including smaller portable devices as well as larger devices for wheelchair or bed mounting. See our Products.

How Do I Pay for the Device?

Funded by Medicare, Medicaid, and many private insurance companies, they are within reach, and with few out-of-pocket costs to you and your family. See our funding page for more information.

How do I Get Started?

The first step is to contact your local DynaVox sales consultant. We have over 100 sales consultants who help clients and professionals trial devices, make the appropriate selection, navigate the process for acquiring the device, and provide post-sales support.

MDA

Our sales consultant will help you find a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who specializes in AAC. The SLP will perform the evaluation and determine if a device is appropriate for you. Also, the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) can help you find an SLP in your area.

Also, please complete this form to receive our AAC Information Packet.

What Other Resources Are Available?

There are two primary organizations in the U.S. that provide support to those with ALS and their families and can answer your questions about these communication solutions. They are the ALS Association (ALSA) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). These organizations, and others like them, may have locations in your area with speech-language pathologists and neurologists who are familiar with AAC. They can help you acquire an EyeMax or similar device solution, and offer support with set-up and training.

ALSA MDA

Is AAC Available for U.S. Veterans?

Veterans can also find support through the Veterans Administration, which now considers ALS a presumptively compensable illness for all veterans with 90 days or more of continuously active service. Additional AAC resources can help familiarize you with the wide variety solutions available.

We Are Here to Help

Few things in life are as fundamental as the ability to communicate. At DynaVox, we believe that our products are more than just hardware, software and technology – they are a person’s pathway to a world of expression.
