InterAACt® Core Word Strategies
InterAACt encourages communication and language development by maintaining five consistent elements in all users (e.g., young child, teen, adult) across the framework spectrum. One of the five common elements includes the precision elements. Precision elements facilitate the development and use of higher level language skills, literacy development and novel message creation by taking advantage of frequently used single words (e.g., I, you, and, the) that allow the communicator to create unique messages. Single word vocabularies can include vocabulary lists and core words. InterAACt provides access to core word vocabularies through Gateway to Language and Learning on the Series 5 devices and through Xpress Core on Xpress devices.
Gateway to Language
Gateway to Language and Learning is a series of page sets designed by Joan Bruno, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. It targets individuals with complex communication needs who use augmentative communication technology (AAC) to communicate.
Xpress core provides access to high frequency single words. These words can be combined to produce sentences or unique messages, in a variety of contexts.
The communication efficiency elements in combination with the precision elements of InterAACt offer a robust and complete communication solution. However, you may choose to use one of the companion page sets as a primary system or in combination with InterAACt. These optional software packages have been developed and tested by experts in the field of speech-language pathology and are based on input from augmented communicators.
