Description
Celebrating its tenth anniversary, this camp gives teens using synthesized speech devices opportunities to learn more about the capabilities of their devices and the power of communication. Device use is part of every camp activity and special event. The session will culminate in the production of "The Wizard of Oz: The Scarecrow Who Wanted a Voice."

Camp Courage is also accepting applications for its Literacy Session Saturday, July 26 – Wednesday, July 31. The session offers a positive literacy experience to students with disabilities (including those who use AAC), ages 12 – 18, who struggle with reading.

Educators under the direction of literacy experts Dr. David Koppenhaver, Ph.D. and Dr. Sally Clendon, Ph.D. will work campers to determine their literacy needs and develop intervention strategies that begin to address those needs. Informal descriptive assessments and intervention reports, including assistive technology solutions, will be provided to families and campers to take back to their home schools.

There will be daily opportunities to participate in a full range of traditional camp activities. Campers must be ambulatory and independent in meeting personal care needs. Because the session will be videotaped for teaching purposes, a signed media release will be required for each camper. For more information, contact barb.wollak@gmail.com
