North, south, east or west, summer augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) camps take hundreds of young people from across the United States – each on an incomparable journey of self-expression – to new and exciting places, literally and figuratively.
DynaVox Technologies' 2008 listing of AAC camps and similar summer programs includes information on day, overnight, weekend and weeklong camps offering a fresh spin on communication through theme-based and/or traditional camp activities. Throughout the listing, the term "campers" refers to those who use speech communication technology. Parents and/or siblings may attend some camps while other camps are for AAC device users only, with families and friends invited to select camp events. The experience leaves everyone involved with the wonderful message that we live in a small world with big possibilities when it comes to finding and sharing our unique voices in meaningful ways.
