On January 1, 2001, the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) began providing
coverage for AAC devices to Medicare beneficiaries with Part B coverage. Medicare
calls AAC devices "speech generating devices," or SGDs, and covers AAC devices as
durable medical equipment within its Part B benefit.
Medicare covers all devices in the DynaVox Technologies product line, including the Vmax, V, M3, DynaWrite, iChat3, Palmtop3 and the Lightwriter devices featured on this website Medicare also provides
coverage for switches, switch mounts, device rental and repair.
