DynaVox Solutions
DynaVox communication devices, such as the Maestro and Xpress are designed to meet
the needs of children with CAS. These devices encourage social interaction and participation
at home, at school and in the community, by providing the tools needed to be an
effective communicator.
InterAACt is the language framework used on all DynaVox devices. It allows children
with speech and language disabilities to successfully communicate, develop higher
level language skills and express themselves, in everyday activities. InterAACt
uses familiar communication settings that are natural and easy to use. InterAACt
meets the needs of children with CAS by providing the messages needed to say,
WHAT They Want, HOW They Want and WHEN They Want.
InterAACt supports language and literacy growth and strives to provide the appropriate
vocabulary needed for successful interaction. InterAACt reflects real people, real
words, and real life. With InterAACt, children with CAS can achieve their goals,
speak their minds and take their communication to the next level.
While familiar listeners, like parents and siblings, might be able to understand
most of the things a child with CAS says, there may be times when a little communication
help is needed. You may find it difficult to understand their speech when the context
is unknown or when they are trying to say a difficult word.
For example, Word Lists provide single words that fit into categories such as food,
drink, actions, things, transportation, etc. and give children with CAS the vocabulary
they need to establish the topic of conversation, describe things and places around
them and to provide additional information when speech becomes difficult.

During a typical school day, children spend time in the classroom, on the playground,
in the cafeteria, etc. It is important to provide the necessary communication tools
so that they can participate to the fullest extent possible. InterAACt provides
the vocabulary to promote functional communication, language and literacy skills
development related to school specific activities. The ultimate goal is to increase
classroom participation and learning.

Children with CAS may be difficult to understand by unfamiliar listeners in the
community.
